Starting on Oct. 1, 2024, one-way fares on Kitsap Fast Ferries will increase for the first time since the service launched in 2017 in response to ongoing inflationary conditions and growing urgency to preserve the long-term sustainability of Kitsap Transit’s marine fleet and facilities.

Kitsap Transit will receive $17 million in federal funding to construct a full-service maintenance facility at its North base in Poulsbo and procure five double-decker battery-electric buses, accelerating the agency’s efforts to transition its fleet toward a zero-emissions future.

This month, we’ve got updates on proposed bus service changes in Silverdale, late-night fast ferry sailings to Seattle (with a new boat!) and thank-yous for our ferry crews.

Based on public input, we’ve revised our proposed bus service changes in Silverdale and Central Kitsap.

Last year, our ferry crews responded to an unprecedented number of significant safety events. We want to recognize 13 crew members who stepped up in these instances and helped resolve potentially dangerous situations.

M/V Solano, the 10th vessel in Kitsap Transit’s fleet, started operations on the Kingston-Seattle route earlier this month, a little over three years since the agency bought it from San Francisco Bay Ferry.

To coincide with the new transit center’s opening, we are making significant changes to our fixed routes in Central Kitsap. The public comment period for proposed summer service changes is open through May 6.

Phase 2 of Sunday service expansion, which was scheduled to start March 10, was paused to give the agency time to evaluate the potential financial impact of Initiative 2117, a November ballot initiative.
