Headways Newsletter: October 2022

Welcome to this month’s Headways newsletter! This month, we’ve got a great feature for you about a family of Kitsap Transit bus drivers. If their story intrigues you and you think you might want to join our team, take a look at our second story — it’s got all the details about how new bus drivers can receive up to a $7,000 hiring bonus.

If you or someone you know is interested in working for Kitsap Transit, check out our employment page.

Updates, updates, updates! Read about the projects in our pipeline, take a gander at KT’s Long-Range Transit Plan and educate yourself about the newly expanded ORCA retail network.

1. Meet Kitsap Transit’s three-generation family of bus drivers

Jeanette Zaleski was one of the first operators hired when Kitsap Transit was formed in the 1980s. Her daughter and grandson have followed in her footsteps, helping transport riders across Kitsap County over the last 40 years.

2. Join our team: New bus drivers can receive up to a $7,000 hiring bonus

That’s right — we want you to drive for us. Join an excellent team, serve your community, and make up to $7,000 after you reach certain milestones in your training (don’t worry, we’ll help you with that part). Oh, did we mention that training is paid?

3. Project updates: see what we’re working on

The new Silverdale Transit Center broke ground this spring and started construction this fall. But we’ve got plenty of other projects in the pipeline that will improve sustainable transit operations, add redundancy for our ferry fleet and bolster our park & ride options in North and South Kitsap.

4. Read our Long-Range Transit Plan

Our draft Long-Range Transit Plan is online! The plan includes a menu of service improvements (including new bus service and improved frequency) and capital investments planned over the next 20 years.

5. Learn about the new expanded ORCA retail network!

Earlier this month, ORCA expanded the number of retail locations where you can purchase a card. This is the first step in a larger rollout that will ultimately result in more than double the current number of stores across Puget Sound. Read on for more info about where you can buy or reload your ORCA card.
