Headways Newsletter: February 2025

Route 390 waits for passengers at the North Viking Transit Center.

Welcome back to Headways!

Things have been busy for KT through the first quarter of 2025. With our first service change of the year, we’ll be introducing Sunday bus service on Bainbridge Island (with service to Poulsbo). We’ve also switched to sending rider alerts through a platform, SimplifyTransit, that will let riders customize the types of alerts they receive in much greater detail.

SimplifyTransit 101: How to get the most out of your KT rider alert subscription

Pick your route, stop, and which days of the week you ride, and then receive alerts based on your selections! Kitsap Transit’s new rider alert platform is meant to give our riders more granular choices so that they can receive only the alerts that matter to them. We’ve put together a few quick tips to help you get the most out of the new platform.

Bainbridge Island Sunday Service begins

On March 16, Kitsap Transit will add Sunday bus service on Bainbridge Island, the last phase in our rollout of Sunday bus service that began in 2023. Route 390 will operate between Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo, and passengers can book a Sunday On-Demand trip within its service area on the island.

Spring service change starts March 16

Kitsap Transit’s spring service change goes into effect on Sunday, March 16. We’re making changes to Routes 93, 94, 223, 307, 390 and 391, and introducing Sunday bus service between Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo. Read the blog for details!

Ferry ridership hit record 1.22 million in 2024

Kitsap Transit’s passenger-only ferries carried a record 1.22 million riders in 2024, 12% more than the previous year. Ridership on Kitsap Fast Ferries, which operates three routes from the Kitsap Peninsula to downtown Seattle, grew 11% to 854,529 riders. Meanwhile, ridership on Kitsap Transit’s Local Foot Ferry services, which connects Bremerton to Port Orchard and Annapolis, rose 16% to 374,336 riders.

KT picks site for operator training facility

In the spring of 2024, Kitsap Transit started scouting potential locations for a bus operator training facility, which will provide a permanent home for our operators to practice bus driving skills year-round. Last month, we selected a site near Bree Drive SW as the preferred location for the facility.
