Help us shape the future of Kitsap Transit

When you think about your public transportation system, what comes to mind? Is it your daily bus or foot ferry ride? Your next trip across the Puget Sound on a fast ferry? Watching the incredible scenery of the Pacific Northwest flash by outside your window?

Some of you probably think about the reasons why you don’t use public transit. Maybe you live in an area that isn’t close to a bus stop. Perhaps the bus schedule doesn’t align with your work schedule, or the routes run too infrequently to make efficient trips to the grocery store or appointments. Without dedicated bus lanes, heavy traffic can mean taking the bus isn’t any faster than driving.

As we plan for the future, Kitsap Transit is going through a public outreach process to discover what kind of projects are necessary to address the community’s long-term transportation needs and improve mobility for all Kitsap County residents. We’re doing that with a comprehensive Long-Range Transit Plan (LRTP), a planning tool that will guide our growth and investments over the next 20 years.

Basically, the LRTP is a list of proposed projects and service improvements that will help us meet current and future transit and mobility needs. It includes big capital projects like new transit centers and park & rides; expanded bus routes that run more frequently, high-capacity transit lines, bus-stop improvements, additional on-demand service areas, the potential to study new ferry routes and more.

To put together an LRTP that is comprehensive, equitable and responsive to the community’s needs, we need your help.

We’re conducting a community survey to gather input from the public about which projects you’d like Kitsap Transit to prioritize between now and 2040. Not all these projects will be included in the final plan, so we want to know which ones you prefer. Even if you don’t ride buses or ferries, we want to hear from you.

To learn more, check out our StoryMap! It’s an interactive, highly detailed walkthrough of the kinds of projects being considered. Once you’ve scanned the StoryMap, you’ll have a strong idea of what projects we want you to prioritize as you take our survey. After that, you can follow this link to fill out the survey.

Your opinion matters. Thank you for helping us shape the future of public transit in Kitsap County!
