Fall service change: Some routes get new names and numbers starting Sept. 18
Our fall service change begins Monday, September 18.
This is a significant service change: We’ve added trips on some South Kitsap routes, reinstated Route 229–Trenton, and revised Route 344 in North Kitsap to reduce the number of times the route crosses Highway 305.
We’re also making important route name and route number updates to several routes in Bremerton.
Route 20–Navy Yard City will be split into two new routes: Route 220–Sunn Fjord and Route 228–Marion. We’re also updating the route numbers on Route 24–Olympic College and Route 26–Bay Vista to Route 224 and Route 226, respectively. You can learn more about why we made these decisions below.
We’re also very excited to announce the rollout of the first phase of our Sunday Service plan on Sept. 24 – the first time in more than a decade that Kitsap Transit will operate bus service on Sundays. You can read more about that plan here.
We’re still hiring bus operators! The more drivers we hire, the more quickly we can resume pre-pandemic service levels. Our drivers receive paid training and CDL certification; excellent benefits including health, dental and vision insurance; a pension in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) and generous paid leave. New operators can also earn up to a $7,000 signing bonus.

Split Route 20–Navy Yard City into two new routes: Route 220–Sunn Fjord and Route 228–Marion.
Route 220 and Route 228 will serve the same area as Route 20 but will operate bi-directionally instead of on a loop. This will reduce travel times for passengers and improve direct connections to stops along the route as well as the West Bremerton Transit Center (see maps).
Because Route 20 operated a loop, there are only bus stops on one side of the street. Bus stops have not been installed on some sections of the new routes, so passengers who take Route 220 and 228 will be allowed to flag down buses.
Passengers traveling to the West Bremerton Transit Center (westbound) on Route 220 can flag down buses for pickup anywhere west of Charleston Boulevard.
Passengers traveling to the Bremerton Transportation Center (eastbound) on Route 228 can flag down buses for pickup anywhere west of Charleston Boulevard.
