Local ferry data added to Performance Indicators Dashboard

The Carlisle II prepares to dock in Bremerton.

In November, we reintroduced our Fast Ferry Performance Indicators Dashboard – home to all the ridership and performance data for our Bremerton, Kingston and Southworth routes.

Until now, the dashboard has included data for our fast ferry program only. Starting today, we’re adding data for our Port Orchard and Annapolis local ferries.

With this update, we’re introducing several new features on the “Overview” tab:

  • You can view systemwide ferry ridership, broken down by category (Fast Ferry or Local Ferry).

  • By selecting “Route” under the left-hand dropdown, you can view ridership color-coded by ferry service (Annapolis, Bremerton, Kingston, Port Orchard, or Southworth) to see how each contributes to systemwide ridership.

  • Using the right-hand dropdown, you can drill down to see a single route’s ridership, on-time performance and reliability by ferry service. The three key metrics for the latest month above the bar chart will update dynamically. The reliability time-series for the local ferries starts with January 2023.

You can view ferry ridership by “Category” or “Route” by using the left-hand dropdown.

Those of you familiar with the dashboard will notice two additional tabs at the top: Just as we break out passenger load averages by sailing for our fast-ferry routes, now you can see these averages by sailing for our local ferry routes. As you can see, there is plenty of capacity these days on our local ferries.

We have also redefined on-time performance to be in line with King County Water Taxi’s definition: Sailings are counted as "on time" if the vessel arrives early or within 5 minutes of scheduled arrival and "late" if it arrives after that.

As always, you can use the “data download” button to download customized ridership data in just a few seconds.

We hope you enjoy this new and improved tool! If you have any comments or suggestions, please email them to sanjayb@kitsaptransit.com.
