Learn about Rides on Demand, Kitsap Transit’s new rideshare app

Kitsap Transit’s new app for Kingston and South Kitsap Ride launches Nov. 28.

Next week, Kitsap Transit will launch a new app for our Kingston Ride and SK Ride services! The app, Rides on Demand, allows riders to book a ride from their phone and travel in these service areas quickly and conveniently.

Our on-demand services operate in specific areas or zones. Within those zones, you can use the app to book a ride on a bus, which will pick you up and take you to your destination. You can think of it like an UberPool– but at a fraction of the cost. It’s a great way to get around these rural communities without using a car, as well as to connect with our Routed buses or ferry services.

Our current app, TapRide, will sunset on Nov. 27. Rides on Demand offers a host of improvements, including the ability to book rides for up to 12 passengers at a time, trip scheduling up to seven days in advance and real-time bus tracking.

Rides on Demand isn’t replacing DoubleMap, the app that tracks our Routed buses and ferries in real-time.

Here’s how to use the new app:

How to use Rides on Demand

Request a Ride

The number of riders defaults to one passenger. You can add up to a maximum of 12 passengers per trip.

  • Select “Pick Up” from the home page.

  • Allow the app to use your current location.

  • Enter your pickup address.

  • Choose a location on the map within the service area by pressing and holding that location on the map.

  • Follow the same steps for the “Drop Off” location.

Ride now (on-demand)

  • Click “Depart Now” and click "OK".

Ride later (pre-schedule)

  • Click the “Depart Now” dropdown and select “Depart At.” You can book a trip up to seven days in advance.

  • Confirm your ride.

Please arrive at your stop early. If your bus is running behind, you can use the real-time tracker (see below) to estimate when you need to be at your pickup location. Arrive at your pickup location before your bus gets to your stop. Drivers cannot wait for passengers. This is to ensure on-time service for other riders.

TIP: You can use past or canceled trips to rebook and schedule new rides.

Track the bus in real-time

Once you’ve requested a ride, the app will display a map showing the real-time location of the bus and the approximate arrival time (in minutes) at your pickup location.

Canceling Your Ride

If you no longer need your ride, please cancel your trip. Canceling your trip will inform the driver in real time that you no longer need to be picked up.

  • To cancel your ride: Select the trip you wish to cancel under "My Rides."

  • The "Ride Details" screen will open. Select "Cancel Ride."

TIP: You can use past or canceled trips (located under the "My Rides" tab) to rebook and schedule new rides. This can help save time instead of re-entering your addresses or selecting locations directly on the map.
