1. Welcome to Headways!
You’ve clearly found your way to our new blog, but if you’re looking for a bit more information about what this site is for, why we started it, and what’s up with the name Headways, check out this introduction from Kitsap Transit Executive Director John Clauson.
2. “Safe and Secure”: Meet Kitsap Transit ACCESS operator Tammy Lambert
In 1996, Tammy Lambert suddenly found herself the sole breadwinner of her family. She needed a job that would help her provide for her three children between the ages of six and 13. Lambert was working at the YWCA in Port Orchard when she heard Kitsap Transit needed bus drivers.
Now more than 23 years later, Lambert has built a career at Kitsap Transit helping her neighbors get where they need to go.
"Everything just kind of fit into place for me to be here, like this is where I'm supposed to be," she said.
3. Kitsap Transit awarded $18 million in federal grants for electric ferries, buses
In the last few months, Kitsap Transit has been awarded several federal grants that will allow us to buy new battery-electric buses as well as design and build an all-electric foot ferry to operate on Sinclair Inlet.
4. Title VI: Why it matters, and how you can weigh in on Kitsap Transit’s services
We know people don’t like to spend their time online answering surveys — but this one is really important. Plus, you could win a grocery gift card!
5. Celebrating the people behind the wheel at Kitsap Transit
Friday, March 18, was Transit Driver Appreciation Day, an annual celebration of the hard-working bus drivers, ferry crewmembers and all of the other transit employees who help connect our communities.
