Service change: Four routes suspended starting August 22

Route 229 will be suspended beginning Aug. 22.

As you’ve probably noticed, Kitsap Transit has been canceling multiple routes a day for the last few weeks due to an ongoing shortage of bus operators. To provide more consistent and reliable service, Kitsap Transit is suspending four routes (Routes 184, 202, 229 and 338) starting on August 22. We’re implementing several other service changes as well, which you can read in detail below. For specific schedule changes, please visit your route page on our website.

Why this is happening now: Kitsap Transit usually makes service changes once a quarter, largely based on operator availability. A recent spike in retirements, combined with the shortage of new operators in training, has forced Kitsap Transit to reduce service levels to be more in line with the number of bus operators available to work. Kitsap Transit will reassess service this winter.

If you or someone you know is interested in a fulfilling career with great benefits, check out our Employment page! We have continuous openings for Routed and ACCESS operators and offer paid training.
